Change of Address

Change your favorites. This blog is on the move.

The business website will be launching in the next two days and with it, a new blog. Check it out here. It's still a work in progress, so don't say anything about the look of it yet. I have been working with Blogger for three years now so it's quite a switch to go with something else.

Thanks so much!

Woot!

Some good news. My sister showed off her kids' pictures and booked me a paying job with a friend of hers from church. Woot!

The Yorde Bunch

I took my niece and nephews out this weekend for our annual photoshoot. I love the pictures with the baby. He was very cooperative once we started singing the Itsy, Bitsy Spider.

For some reason, blogger has decided to cut off the right-hand side of my pictures. I'll have to figure that out.

Picture of the Week

Some of my favorite photos from last week.

This week I get the opportunity to shoot my niece and nephews and I am supposed to have an interview with a local photography studio for a small office job. Hey, everyone's got to start somewhere!

Picture of the Week

I am learning a lot in my digital manipulation class and used my advantage as a student to purchase my own copy of Photoshop CS3. This picture for "Picture of the Week" was enhanced in Photoshop. What do you think?

Picture of the Week

I forget which week I'm on. In honor of 9/11, this is the picture I took. I tried to do a little Photoshop on it, but I'm not really sure what difference it made. I'll be learning Photoshop soon enough--class starts on Thursday.

I also really like this texture picture I took the same day. I did a walking tour around Dublin, OH and shot this of a bench outside a doctor's office.

Also, does anyone know how to make the pictures bigger on this blog?

Game Time Decision

Over the summer I signed up for a math class at Ohio State because I was going to begin work on my actuary science degree. It was an upper-level math class, specifically for actuary science and it was already full when I signed up. I was put on the waitlist and I did not expect to get in. In the mean time, I signed up for the Photography I class to keep my student status. Funny enough, a few weeks ago I actually got into the math class, but decided to drop it as I was turned down for an actuary job about a month ago.

I am still signed up for the Photography I class. Class start next Wednesday, the 19th, but I haven't paid for the class yet. I am really torn with this decision. On the one hand, I know a lot of the stuff that will be taught in class as I've taken a few classes at the local photography store, but this class will also involve critiquing. Except for family and friends, no one has critiqued my pictures. On the other hand, the class is a good chunk of money. Money that could be used to upgrade my current camera. (I have a Canon EOS Rebel that's only 6 MP--I want a 5D, but really can't justify it.) In addition, the class is three days a week including two-2 hour classes. That's just time in class too and does not include the assignments. I still need to work full time, keep running schedule, and see my husband once in a while.

My question is this, should I enroll in class? Is class that important or is it more about practice, practice, practice? Should I look to sign up for a Photoshop class instead of a photography class (next quarter)? Thoughts?

Update: What the heck was I thinking signing up for another class? I signed up for a digital manipulation class which is a class about learning Photoshop. The class work looks less like photo manipulation and more like collaging. I have not dropped the photography class, yet, but I will probably only take one of these classes. I am kinda leaning towards the digital manipulation class since I know very little about Photoshop.
