Picture of the Week

I forget which week I'm on. In honor of 9/11, this is the picture I took. I tried to do a little Photoshop on it, but I'm not really sure what difference it made. I'll be learning Photoshop soon enough--class starts on Thursday.

I also really like this texture picture I took the same day. I did a walking tour around Dublin, OH and shot this of a bench outside a doctor's office.

Also, does anyone know how to make the pictures bigger on this blog?

Game Time Decision

Over the summer I signed up for a math class at Ohio State because I was going to begin work on my actuary science degree. It was an upper-level math class, specifically for actuary science and it was already full when I signed up. I was put on the waitlist and I did not expect to get in. In the mean time, I signed up for the Photography I class to keep my student status. Funny enough, a few weeks ago I actually got into the math class, but decided to drop it as I was turned down for an actuary job about a month ago.

I am still signed up for the Photography I class. Class start next Wednesday, the 19th, but I haven't paid for the class yet. I am really torn with this decision. On the one hand, I know a lot of the stuff that will be taught in class as I've taken a few classes at the local photography store, but this class will also involve critiquing. Except for family and friends, no one has critiqued my pictures. On the other hand, the class is a good chunk of money. Money that could be used to upgrade my current camera. (I have a Canon EOS Rebel that's only 6 MP--I want a 5D, but really can't justify it.) In addition, the class is three days a week including two-2 hour classes. That's just time in class too and does not include the assignments. I still need to work full time, keep running schedule, and see my husband once in a while.

My question is this, should I enroll in class? Is class that important or is it more about practice, practice, practice? Should I look to sign up for a Photoshop class instead of a photography class (next quarter)? Thoughts?

Update: What the heck was I thinking signing up for another class? I signed up for a digital manipulation class which is a class about learning Photoshop. The class work looks less like photo manipulation and more like collaging. I have not dropped the photography class, yet, but I will probably only take one of these classes. I am kinda leaning towards the digital manipulation class since I know very little about Photoshop.

Picture of the Week

This week's picture was taken at St. John Arena at The Ohio State University. Dave, my husband, used to be in the marching band. At the first game of the season all alumni are invited back to play and march. Rehearsal is the Friday before the game. This year the rehearsal was held at St. John's.

Blogroll

I read a lot of blogs. A LOT! I read a ton about running and triathlon (see my other blog) along with random stuff like celebrity gossip and even one about donuts. He he! About half of the blogs I read are photography blogs. I have added some local and not so local favorites on my blogroll on the side. If you'd like to be added to this list, please let me know.

Picture of the week coming later today!
